September is here! The change of seasons is getting closer. And so is my post on our favourite autumnal books. However, we celebrate the change of season by the astronomical season (autumn equinox), so I use all my will power to not swap over our seasonal texts too soon!
This is what we’re going to be reading this month:

Winnie’s Amazing Pumpkin by Valerie Thomas
My favourite Winnie book. This one tells the tale of Winnie and Wilbur growing their own vegetables in the garden but with the spell going a tad awry! P has loved reading this one this morning already.

The Enormous Turnip by Katie Daynes
A classic traditional tale! We have noticed that P is interested in farms and on car journeys will talk about the farmers harvesting in the fields, so I wanted to bring in some vegetable themed texts for this month to coincide with learning about Harvest.

Owl Babies by Martin Waddell
P has always loved birds, especially owls, so this is a lovely story to add in this month. Three little owl babies wait for their mother and the use of repetitive phrases makes it a great story for children to join in. With the days getting shorter too it is a perfect time to start to talk about nocturnal animals and the concept of night and day / light and dark.

Wow Said The Owl by Tim Hopgood
An old book of P’s but one worth recommending. We bought this when P was around a year old and it is a great introduction to colours and repetitive language. “Wow” was one of her first words. Beautiful story about a little owl who stays up in the day with simple yet stunning illustrations. A definite favourite!

Are You There Little Fox? by Sam Taplin
One for the younger audience! Usborne ‘Peep Through’ books are great for babies and toddlers. This story follows a fox through a woods with stunning illustrations. Simple text but lots of notice and talk about. I hadn’t planned on getting this book back out but P spotted it and has been quietly enjoying it by herself.
What will you be reading this September?
I will be posting soon about how we celebrate the change in seasons and the autumnal themed books that we enjoy. Keep your eyes peeled!
